Bored to Death (HBO)

"It's a comedy on HBO starring Jason Schwartzman as Jonathan Ames, a struggling writer who took out an add on Craigslist to be a non-licensed detective. In the very beginning of the show, his girlfriend leaves him for drinking too much and smoking marijuana too much, and the show basically depicts his misadventures in his new occupation as a detective. Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis are cast as Schwartzman's boss and best friend who seem to enjoy his extra curricular activities as well. Schwartzman's character gets himself into great predicaments throughout the show and can't seem to get his life quite together."

How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

"It's about a guy named Ted, an architect, and the story he tells his children about how he met their mother. It focuses on Ted's group of friends, Marshall, Lilly, Robin and Barney. It's narrated by Bob Saget who's telling the story in 2030. Neil Patrick Harris's character, Barney, has to be my favorite part of this show. He's always giving his friends the worst advice about relationships, which seems to get them into hilarious conflicts. He formulates 'The Bro Code,' always wears suits, and is in constant competition with Marshall to be Ted's best friend. You can't help but love his character and his love for suits, Scotch, and hooking up with random women on a nightly basis. Also, because Robin's homeland is Canada, the show makes fun of Canadians for their love of hockey, their overly pleasant behavior, and their supposed obliviousness towards cold weather. Through Ted's narration, he tones down some of the adult content by labeling it as something else (such as his upstairs neighbors' 'bag pipe noises') so that you still understand the content of it, but are reminded that this story is being told to teenagers. It's basically about a group of friends and their life after college, dealing with new careers, marriage, and break ups."

The Soup (E!)

"Joel McHale, the host, basically goes through the week's reality TV and talk shows and makes fun of the people on those shows. It also makes fun of celebrities and the drama in their lives. He even has a whole segment for Lindsay Lohan. McHale constantly makes fun of Ryan Seacrest, which is hilarious, and shows clips from E! News almost every week. With America's constant obsession with celebrities and reality TV, it's quite an amusing satire that makes fun of America for actually watching that crap. McHale even has celebrities come onto this show and it usually ends with someone getting shot or punched."
