Weekend film: Africa World Documentary Film Fest at Spencer

The Spencer Museum of Art on Kansas University's campus is showing documentary films from across Africa on Thursday and Friday night as well as Saturday afternoon and night. Check out the event's website for the full schedule.

Thursday music: Goomba Rave at the Bottleneck

Team Bear Club's weekly event is going strong, with high attendance and lots of buzz. Check it out at the Bottleneck, 737 N.H., starting at 9 p.m. Cover is $3 for 21+.

Friday books: Big Tent event at the Raven

Friday music: Spirit is the Spirit and Fake Natives at the Jackpot

It's a local(ish) lineup at the Jackpot, 943 Mass., with Spirit is the Spirit, Manhattanites (I don't hold it against them) Fake Natives and Hefty Second Helping plus Everyday/Everynight.

Saturday music: Real Estate at the Bottleneck

Woodist labelmates Real Estate will be back in Lawrence, this time at the Bottleneck, starting at 8 p.m. Locals Ghosty will open. (They're worth checking out on their own.) Tickets are $13 for 21+ and $15 for 18+.

Sunday film: Focus Film Fest awards at Liberty Hall

The seventh annual film festival celebrating the work of nearly 100 area high-school students will have its award ceremony and screenings of winning work at Liberty Hall, 636 Mass., starting at 2 p.m. The event is free (donations accepted) and includes snacks from several local businesses.
